This weekend, the Wyoming Cowboys and Colorado State Rams will renew their Border War rivalry for the 108th time.

Although Colorado State leads the all-time series 58-44-5, Wyoming has had their fare share of Border War highlights.

Here’s our list of the five best games in the history of the Border War rivalry, all of which were Wyoming victories, of course.

5. Nov. 24, 1910 in Laramie – Prior to the 1910 season, the Pokes had never defeated the Rams, compiling a record of 0-6-1 since their first meeting in 1899. Wyoming scored their first win in the rivalry, shutting out CSU by a score of 10-0. The Cowboys would shut out the Rams again the following year, winning 27-0 in Fort Collins.

4. Oct. 29, 1988 in Fort Collins – This game holds a unique distinction in the long, storied history of the Border War. Wyoming came into the game ranked #10 in the AP poll, the highest national ranking either team has ever had. The Pokes dominated CSU from the outset, on their way to 48-14 victory. Wyoming would finish the season with a record of 11-2, earning an appearance in the Holiday Bowl.

3. Sept. 25, 1965 in Fort Collins – The longest winning streak in Border War history belongs to Wyoming, who ran off 10 consecutive victories over their arch rivals from 1956 to 1965. Their tenth straight win was a blowout, as the Cowboys cruised to an easy 33-14 victory in Fort Collins. After being upset in 1966, Wyoming would compile another seven consecutive wins in the series, and by 1973, had claimed victory in 19 of 21 meetings dating back to 1953.

2. Nov. 20, 2010 in Laramie – Of the 107 games in Border War history, this one was the most lopsided victory for either team. The Cowboys shut out the Rams 44-0 for their second of four straight wins versus CSU, dating from 2009 – 2012. The following year, Wyoming would finish with a record of 8-5, earning a berth in the New Mexico Bowl. Unfortunately, the Pokes haven’t finished with a winning record since.

1. Nov. 16, 1996 in Fort Collins – Perhaps the most closely contested game in the history of the Border War rivalry. Led by Marcus Harris, who would go on to win the Fred Belitnikoff Award honoring the country’s best Wide Receiver, the 23rd ranked Cowboys staved off an upset at the hands of the Rams, winning 25-24. Wyoming would finish the ’96 season with a record of 10-2, ranked #22 in the AP poll, eventually losing a heartbreaking overtime battle to 5th ranked BYU in the first ever WAC Championship Game.
