A Casper man pleaded guilty to charges related to a shooting incident in March in exchange for other charges in the case being dropped.

Appearing in Natrona County District Court Tuesday, Eugene Antwain Banks pleaded guilty to two charges: aggravated assault and felon in possession of a firearm.

As a part of a plea agreement, prosecutors agreed to drop two additional counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of a deadly weapon with unlawful intent.

A misdemeanor stalking charge will also be dismissed if District Court Judge Kerri M. Johnson accepts the plea deal. Prosecutors are expected to ask for no more than a seven- to 10-year prison sentence.

According to an affidavit of probable cause, Banks and a friend were drinking at a bar before his friend started to give him a ride home. At some point in the trip, Banks asked his friend to take him by Banks's girlfriend's house.

When they got there, Banks began yelling obscenities out of the car window. He pulled out a firearm and began firing the gun into the air, according to the affidavit.

Banks told police he'd been using methamphetamine and that the vehicle's driver had no idea he was going to fire the weapon.

During the course of interviews, police learned Banks was jealous and he targeted his rage toward a man living next to his girlfriend.

At the time of Tuesday's hearing, Banks remained in custody on $50,000 cash or surety bond.

A sentencing hearing has not yet been scheduled.
