Casper City Council chose vice mayor Daniel Sandoval as its new mayor in a brief ceremony Tuesday.

Council also named Steve Cathey as vice mayor.

In another personnel change, council member Robin Mundell of Ward I formally signed off her position Tuesday. City Council will be conducting interviews of those who applied for her position.

Sandoval, who replaces Mayor Charlie Powell, believes council will continue on its current path.

"The mayoral shift isn't going to change things significantly, because I think the city is on the right track," he said. "You have some fiscal challenges coming up, but we will continue to make a dicey-dance between thrift and investments."

Gov. Matt Mead's proposed budget cut in half from the previous budget the amount of state funds that will be directed to local governments.

The Wyoming Association of Municipalities has been making a concerted effort to influence legislators' minds, Sandoval said.
