Casper firefighters quickly extinguished a grass and tree fire on multiple properties Tuesday afternoon.

Grass and at least one large tree caught fire in the 500 block of South Walsh and 3800 block of Cynthia Tuesday afternoon.

Crews were able to quickly extinguish the blaze before it got inside a home, said Casper Fire-EMS Battalion Chief Jerod Levin.

Crews also had to work around a broken water main.

"The fire was pretty well knocked down when we had to move," Levin said.

Levin said a firefighter suffered minor injuries to his hands when a car drove over a five-inch hose.

"We really want to caution the public not to drive over our firehoses. It really hampers our efforts and it can hurt us," Levin said.

Levin said the injured firefighter is being evaluated. It's unclear what type of injuries he suffered.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
