PREGAME:

* Wyoming Hall of Famer and Akron native Larry Nance Jr. will be in attendance today. UW brass, including AD Tom Burman, Kevin McKinney and Randy Welniak, among others, had dinner Wednesday night with the current Cleveland Cavalier power forward.

* Appears defensive end Esaia Bogar is not in uniform tonight in Akron. He underwent a procedure on his right hand and knew the timetable to return would be cutting it close.

FIRST QUARTER:

* Sam Scott picks up the 4th-and-1. Gains six on the play. Sawvel with a gutsy call early, going for it from the Pokes' 34.

* Wyoming facing a 3rd-and-11 here from the Akron 37. This offense is moving quick. No huddle. Anderson getting the ball out.

* Wyoming opting to punt here from the Zips' 37. Blustery winds inside the stadium. Decided not to give Sandvik a go. Edmiston's first punt, BTW, was a beauty that should've been downed at the 1. Mistake there.

* Alex Adams might have dropped a potential touchdown right there. Johnson with the hit that ultimately jarred it loose.

* Shaky first series for this new-look defense, but they are getting off the field here. DeBlanc back to receive the punt.

* Scott just gets caught by the ankle. That could've been a really big gainer. Great blocking up front.

* Another drive stalls inside Akron territory. Wyoming will punt from the 42.

* Chisom Ifeanyi with a big sack on third down. Here comes the punt team. Nice blitz disguise right there.

* Lucas Samsula also getting credit for .5 sack there.

* We're scoreless after one quarter here inside InfoCision Stadium. Wyoming with 79 yards of total offense (42 pass, 37 rush). This revamped defense has held the Zips to just 43 yards through 15 minutes. Here comes the punt team.

SECOND QUARTER:

* Three drives, three punts for the visiting Cowpokes. Kaden Anderson is just 7-11 so far, averaging 3.8 yards per pass.

* Wyoming forces a 3-and-out here. Getting good pressure on Finley on that drive.

* Anderson with a big first-down pickup on a 3rd-and-7.

* Brantley can't hold on to a fast ball on third. Here comes the fourth punt in four possessions. Akron should again have great field position.

* *TURNOVER ON DOWNS* Really nice tackle on the perimeter there by Desman Hearns. Pokes take over at their own 40.

* Durr turns on the jets there. The sophomore just got caught inside the Akron 20. That's the spark this offense needed.

* 49 yards on that pitch and catch from Anderson to Durr. Follow that with a horse collar on Akron and the Pokes are in business inside the 10.

* *FIELD GOAL* Missed opportunity there for the visitors. Durr was open in the end zone. Sandvik nails his first collegiate kick, a nice little chip shot from 26 yards out. Wyoming 3 Akron 0 5:20/ 2Q

* Akron has something cooking on this drive. Pass rush has been nonexistent here. Finley making them pay downfield. Zips at the Wyoming 37 here at the 2-min TO

* Akron is at the UW 26-yard line with 1:00 remaining in the first half. First down and two timeouts in the Zips' pocket

* The stat issue in this press box is a major issue. Sorry for the delays. No clue what the penalty was on Akron. All we do know is a Ben Florentine sack just took the Zips right out of FG range. Home team has the ball on the 40, facing a 2nd-and-25 with 0:47 to go in the half.

* Florentine's sack looming large there. Akron misses -- badly -- a 49-yard FG attempt. Wyoming ball at its own 32 with 0:31 to go and two timeouts. Wyoming 3 Akron 0

* Sam Scott with a big gainer. Pokes now at the Zips' 40 with 0:24 to go.

* *TURNOVER ON DOWNS* Akron with the stuff. Another missed opportunity for the visitors, who were facing a 4th-and-inches at the 31-yard line with 11 ticks remaining. That will do it for the first half. Wyoming 3 Akron 0 HALFTIME

THIRD QUARTER:

* Nice three-and-out for the D. Big time rookie mistake from DeBlanc on the punt return. Had all kinds of space, let it bounce, ball rolls to the 2. 98 yards to go ...

* Keep an eye on Akron QB Ben Finley who got absolutely wrecked on that third-down incompletion.

* Anderson not on target at all right now. He's just 11-22 for 104 yards. He's averaging just 4.3 yards per completion. Saw OC Jay Johnson and halftime and he had steam rolling out of his ears.

* Wyoming's defense has really settled in tonight. Ben Finley just 9-20 for 87 yards. Lots of throws off the back foot. Been banged up a bit. Akron has managed only 139 total yards to this point.

* *INTERCEPTION* Kaden Anderson's night just went from bad to worse. Deflection lands into the arms of Akron's Markus Boswell. Zip football at the UW 39.

* *INTERCEPTION* Brayden Johnson reads Finley's eyes and snags a pick in the end zone with Akron at the 5-yard line. Huge play by the Oklahoma Baptist linebacker to keep this a 3-0 game.

* Second career 100-yard rushing game for Sam Scott. He rolled up 115 last year vs. Utah State.

* One quarter to go in Akron. Wyoming will begin the final frame with a 1st-and-10 at the Zips' 46. Did not see this coming ... Wyoming 3 Akron 0 End of Third

FOURTH QUARTER:

* Durr with another burst and the Pokes are inside the Zips' 30.

* Sawvel burning a timeout here. Wyoming is facing a 4th-and-1 at the Akron 7-yard line. Offense is staying on the field. Wyoming 3 Akron 0 10:27/ 4Q

* *TURNOVER ON DOWNS* Akron stacks the box, Wyoming runs right into it. Unbelievable. Zip football at their own 10. Wyoming 3 Akron 0 10:20/ 4Q

* Wyoming's defense does it again. three-and-out just like that. Cowboys should get good field position here. Coenen back to receive.

* Nate Geiger just picked up his third false start of the night. I can tell you with ultimate certainty it has nothing to do with crowd noise. Ouch

* A pair of penalties, beginning with a hit in the back on the punt, derails a drive that should've started in Akron territory. Here comes punt No. 6

* Wyoming's defense just tormenting Finley. He's 12-28 for 108 yards and a pick. Here comes the punt team.

* Anderson to Holman on a long ball. Pokes now at the Akron 41. Arizona transfer had to wait on the throw a bit or he could've been off to the races.

* *TOUCHDOWN* Chris Durr snags a short pass again and bolts through the Akron defense from 37 yards out. Pokes are finally in the end zone. Wyoming 10 Akron 0 4:21/ 4Q

* 417 yards of total offense for the Pokes tonight. Just haven't capitalized until that near 40-yard dash by Durr.

University of Wyoming’s Top 50 Football Players

During the summer of 2021, 7220Sports.com counted down the Top 50 football players in University of Wyoming history, presented by Premier Bone & Joint Centers, Worthy of Wyoming.

The rules are simple: What was the player's impact while in Laramie? That means NFL stats, draft status or any other accolade earned outside of UW is irrelevant when it comes to this list.

This isn't a one-man job. This task called for a panel of experts. Joining 7220's Cody Tucker are Robert GagliardiJared NewlandRyan Thorburn, and Kevin McKinney.

We all compiled our own list of 50 and let computer averages do the work. Think BCS -- only we hope this catalog is fairer.
