It's not often that we hear the warning sirens going off in Wyoming. If you hear them, it may be a rare tornado warning, or it's just a test.

On Friday, September 26, when you hear them, it's just a test.

It's time for the annual testing of the Outdoor Warning Systems in Natrona County.

The testing will last between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. There is no need to call 9-1-1 or alert authorities to the sirens.

No, all of the sirens won't be blasting the whole time; they will test each siren individually to make sure they're all working correctly.

The warning sirens are one of four ways in Natrona County that are used to notify you of emergencies.

The sirens are in place so that in the event of an emergency, and you're outdoors, you can be alerted to an incoming threat and seek shelter.

They are activated when the National Weather Service issues a Tornado Warning or a Severe Thunderstorm Warning if the storm contains destructive winds of 80+ mph.

Natrona County also has a notification system in place where you can be sent text messages, email, pages, or voicemail (in extreme cases), depending on your preferences.

The system is intended to be used for emergency alerts, as well as non-emergency incidents that may have significant impacts on residents. Emergency Alerts could be related to specific hazards that require some action to be taken, such as evacuation, shelter in place, boil water orders, etc. Non-emergency alerts could include significant transportation problems with prolonged impacts or significant ongoing police or fire activity. This list is not meant to be all-inclusive, and demonstrates that this system will not be used for routine information. In addition to receiving information on your wireless device, you may also receive a notification on your land telephone line (if you have one), depending on the type of incident or event.

To get the app and start being notified, it's available for IPHONE and ANDROID.
