Four Wyoming Rodeos Play A Role In The PRCA Playoffs
The official sport of Wyoming is none other than Rodeo. In 2003, the sport was adopted as the official sport, but rodeo has been a huge sport here since before Wyoming was officially a state. When you look around the state, there's no doubt that the cowboy spirit is alive and well.

Now that we're into 2026, the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) is ready to kick off the multi-million dollar 2026 season-long Playoff Series.
The series is 60 of the top-paying professional rodeos in the country, and Wyoming has four of those rodeos where the cowboys and cowgirls will compete to earn their way into the finals and a big payday. In 2025, the series paid out over $28 million and is expected to pay out even more in 2026.
As you can see from this graphic, four of Wyoming's biggest PRCA rodeos are a part of the journey.
The four Wyoming stops on the playoff trail are:
- Cody Stampede
- Central Wyoming Fair and PRCA Rodeo in Casper
- Sheridan Wyoming Rodeo
- Cheyenne Frontier Days
The PRCA playoff series is a big part of the push to the National Finals in Vegas. The way it works is that PRCA rodeo athletes compete throughout the year. Points from each of the 60 rodeos are collected, and at the end of the season, the top cowboys and cowgirls in each event are invited to the Cinch Playoffs at the Puyallup Rodeo, the first part of September in Washington. Then the hope is to move on to the Governor's Cup and compete for part of the $1 million purse.
