Motorcyclist Dead After Crashing Into Building in Cheyenne
A 20-year-old man is dead after crashing his motorcycle into a building in north central Cheyenne Wednesday morning, police say.
Capt. David Janes says it happened at about 8:09 a.m. at the intersection of East Lincolnway and Nationway.
"There was video footage of the crash from the building," Janes told KGAB Radio. "It looks like he was going in excess of 10 mph over the speed limit."
"I don't know if the sun glare got him distracted, it's really hard to tell, he just went off the road to the right and over the curb and then into the building," Janes added.
Janes says the man was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
"His parents were at the hospital right away, but his plates were out of state, so I don't know where he's from," said Janes.
According to fatal crash statistics from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, this is the 17th motorcyclist to die on Wyoming's highways so far this year.
"This is a solemn reminder about the dangers on the road," police in a Facebook post said. "The Cheyenne Police Department urges all drivers to exercise caution and practice defensive driving to help ensure everyone's safety."
