School administrators confirmed Kelly Walsh High School was placed on level-one lockdown Friday morning as part of a drill and drug search conducted by Kelly Walsh officials and area law enforcement.

Principal Brad Diller says the lockdown at Kelly Walsh, though unannounced, was scheduled, and no students were in any immediate danger. Diller says law enforcement used a team of six drug dogs to sweep the school for illegal substances.

Diller says parents were notified of the drill after the drug search was concluded.

As far as contacting parents, we did not,” Diller said. “It was an unannounced drill for everyone – you’re probably never going to find anything if you tell everyone, ‘Hey, we’re going to do a drill.’ or, ‘Hey, we’re going to bring drug dogs to school.’”

Diller says school officials will use different methods to inform parents about its lockdown drills in the future.

One thing we did learn today is that, the next time we do a lockdown drill, we will send a flash message to all the parents on all their cell phones to say that we are in a level-one lockdown and there’s no danger or threat to any of our students at school,” Diller said.

Diller says both students and staff were cooperative during the lockdown.
