Sia is not surprised that her controversial video for 'Elastic Heart' (starring Shia LaBeouf and 12-year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler) has elicited "'pedophilia!!!' cries" -- but she is sorry.

The elusive singer-songwriter took to Twitter last night (Jan. 7) to clarify the meaning behind the video, which depicts the 'Transformers' actor and young dancer performing an emotional dance together while both trapped in a cage.

Sia explained that the performers were meant to represent two different forms of herself, writing:

Still, the fact that many were upset -- or even triggered -- by her 'Elusive Heart' video is something that Sia absolutely did not intend to do. And so she followed up her clarification tweet with a meaningful apology, writing:
