In what has to be one of the cruelest things to ever happen due to a typo, 26-year-old Denise Garrido of Ontario reigned as the new Miss Universe Canada for a full 24 hours before being informed that she hadn't actually won the competition. Turns out, judges miscalculated and she came in fourth, not first.

Leila Lopes of Angola took the Miss Universe crown Monday night, making her the first-ever winner from the African nation. Olesia Stefanko of Ukraine came in second, and Priscila Machado of Brazil, which hosted the event, took third.  Miss USA Alyssa Campanella didn’t crack the top 10.
