Speed Limit

If you are heading southbound on Walsh Drive, during school zone driving hours, you will now have to slow down a little earlier.

I'm not sure if the entire city of Casper is being punk'd or not, but the speed limit has magically returned to 35 miles per hour on Poplar Street between 1st Street and Collins Street.

The Casper Police Department wants to remind residents to be cognizant of the speed limit in school zones.

I have confirmed that the speed limit on Poplar Street, between Collins and 1st Street, has been lowered to 30 mile per hour.

Casper City Council members began reconsidering the matter a few months ago, and decided to revise the ordinance.

In March, the city changed the speed limit to 20 mph from 30 mph on East Second Street between South McKinley Street and Park Street.

Like I have said in the past, I am not an aggressive driver. But, when I see people doing things like speeding in residential areas or apartment complex parking lots it really does grind my gears!

Council member Mike Huber and Mayor Charlie Powell said they will monitor the results of the change in the speed limit.

Surprisingly, a higher average speed limit may be the reason we has a lower percentage of aggressive drivers.

WYDOT says long-term statistics show unsafe speed plays a role in over 70 percent of winter crashes in Wyoming.

Until the new signs are installed, the existing posted speed limit remains in effect.

“We’ll look at the roads and driving behaviors to ensure there is no significant increase in crashes,” says WYDOT Director Bill Panos.
