File this one under weird observation. I'm just gonna say it. I have yet to see anyone in Casper honk their horn. Weird.

FACT: During my first year in Casper, I have yet to witness someone honk their vehicle horn in traffic. NO ONE. There are only a few possibilities as to why this is true.

  1. Everyone in Casper is 100% polite
  2. No vehicle horns in Casper actually work
  3. I'm the perfect driver and never inspire road rage

Let me state that there's no chance any of those reasons are correct which leaves us with a mystery. Where have all the car horns gone?

I've witnessed some amazing displays of bad driving ability in our fair city. Cars making left turns out of the far right turn lane on a four lane street. Trucks going the wrong way on a one-way street. I saw a vehicle stop in the middle of the road while several people (I counted 5, but it might have been more) got in the back seat. Traffic was stopped, but NOT ONE PERSON HONKED.

I have to admit that I am really enjoying this traffic silence. If I had to guess why, I'd estimate that people around these parts are just super-polite and don't want to make their driving neighbors feel bad by (*ahem*) honking. But, at the same time, it's weird.

If you can explain this mystery to me, please do. Do you hear honking? Do I just not get out of my house enough? Even better, HONK if you agree.
