Republican Rep. Liz Cheney voted Friday in favor of a budget resolution which starts the process of dismantling President Barack Obama's signature healthcare law.

The U.S. House voted largely along party lines, 227-198, allowing a process called "budget reconciliation" to be used in order to carve out major elements of the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.

"I am proud that one of my first votes in Congress was to start the process to repeal and replace this failed system," Cheney said in a statement. "The people of Wyoming deserve healthcare that puts patients and their families in the driver's seat."

The Senate voted in favor of the measure earlier this week.

"Individuals, not government bureaucrats, should be in charge of their own healthcare decisions," Cheney added. "Today we took the first important step in that direction."
