A new era of Cher Lloyd music has officially been "Activated."

Today (July 21), the former X Factor UK contestant released her new single — her first since 2014 — on Rolling Stone. The track, called "Activated," serves as a noticeable lane shift from the feisty artist's previous swagged-out bubblegum style, and is miles removed from the bratty, glossy tween pop of her 2012 jealousy anthem, "Want U Back."

"When I do the damn thing just watch me / I'm charged up / I'm getting activated," Cher sings on the mid-tempo new single, a chilled out, hip hop-lite jam that contains a wobbly synth-line reminiscent of the one in the Ying Yang Twins' "Wait (The Whisper Song)." (Yeah, you know the one.)

"I’ve waited two years to have creative control of my own career and finally do things my way," the pop star said in a statement about the tune, which she first teased on Twitter back on July 15.

"Returning with new music and releasing 'Activated' is such a huge deal for me. I’ve been working hard on new music and I cannot wait to reveal more to you all," Cher added. "Now I’m ready to roll my sleeves up and show you all what I’m really made of. To all of you who have stood by me since the start of my career, I promise you, this is just the beginning."

Cher Lloyd is currently working on her third studio album.
