This has been a question that has been burning in the back of my mind ever since I was a kid and no one seems to know how Dead Horse Hill actually got its name in Casper.

Kids in the schoolyard of the old CY Jr. High school always had some very interesting theories of how it got its name. Such as, a battle that went on on top of that hill and there were a lot of horses that went off the hill and ended up dying.

When I got older I realized that theory was less than plausible. However, that is not the only theory of how it got that name. Another one (which I believe to be the aptest description.) A soldier got into a skirmish with a native American during which the soldier's horse was shot on top of that hill, hence the name 'Dead Horse Hill'.

Do you have any other theories of how this hill got it's notorious name?
