Maybe you thought your thumbs were fast, and you could pop out text messages at remarkable speeds. Well, perhaps you should think again. A 16-year-old New Yorker was just awarded the top prize for the second year in a row at the LG US National Texting Competition.

How does a person win such a fabulous prize? He or she wins the national texting championship by having some pretty amazing thumbs. Austin Wierschke, the victor of this year’s texting competition, is a whiz when it comes to speed texting, and accuracy. The kid from Queens beat all of the other competitors “thumbs” down.

In order to claim the $50,000 dollar prize, Austin had to go up against 10 other texting contestants, whose ages ranged from 16 to 24. The competitors came together in New York’s Times Square, where they took part in three rounds of texting. One round had them text while blindfolded, another round had them texting with their cell phones behind their backs. And then there was a “Text Blitz,” when they had to copy phrases as fast as they possibly could.

Austin must’ve been very pleased with his second win at the competition, and the big cash prize that entails. Our guess is that he probably alerted all of his friends about his well-deserved success via text message, in less than a minute flat.
