Firefighters Tackle Muddy Fire On Casper Mountain Early Today
Around 2:00 a.m. on July 28th, Casper Public Safety Communications Center dispatched crews to the east side of Casper Mountain on Poderosa Road due to a wildland fire.
It was estimated that the fire, named the 'Muddy Fire,' had already spread to 25 acres with 0% containment when crews arrived on the scene.
The fire is active and can be seen from Hat Six Road. Please avoid the area to give crews the space to work and contain the fire.
More fire resources and aviation crews have been ordered to arrive later this morning. Crews are still investigating the cause of the fire and will not know more until later today.
Crews from the Natrona County Fire District, Casper Mountain Fire, Bureau of Land Management - Wyoming, and Natrona County Sheriff's Office have all responded and are on scene.
The Muddy Fire isn't the only fire from the weekend in the Casper area. On Saturday, Wyoming Boulevard was closed between McKinley and 21st Street due to a fire. Thankfully, crews were on the scene quickly and were able to get the fire under control, reopening the road.
Nationally, 9 out of 10 wildfires are caused by humans. They are preventable if you use caution.
Remember that when it's hot and dry, conditions are often not right for fires. Keep these tips in mind.
- Monitor weather conditions and fire restrictions. One way to do that in Natrona County is to download the myAlerts app from Google Play or the Apple App Store.
- If fires are allowed, use a fire ring, clear the area around it, use shorter lengths of wood, and ensure your fire is completely out. Douse it until the ashes are cold.
- Keep your vehicle off dry grass. The heat from your car can quickly ignite a fire and cause damage.
- Maintain your equipment.
- Keep sparks away from dry vegetation.
