1 Dead, 1 Injured After Semi Topples on I-80 in Wyoming
A trucker is dead after overturning his semi on Interstate 80, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.
It happened around 1:52 a.m. last Thursday, July 13, near mile marker 94, just east of Green River.
According to a fatality crash summary, 34-year-old Florida resident Robert Marrero was behind the wheel of a westbound Freightliner when he ran off the right edge of the interstate, tried to correct back onto the interstate, and overturned his rig.
As the semi skidded to a stop on the passenger side, a westbound Ram 3500 collided with the undercarriage of the cab, throwing Marrero from his seat and trapping him under the engine compartment.
Marrero was wearing his seat belt but died from his injuries.
Another person was also reportedly injured in the crash, while a third person was able to escape injury.
The summary says it's possible Marrero fell asleep at the wheel.
Of the 68 people who have died on Wyoming's highways so far this year, 18, or 26.47%, have died in crashes on I-80.
