SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Police say they've made arrests in Los Angeles at a protest against the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the Travyon Martin shooting death.

Police began making arrests after about 80 protesters gathered in Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard shortly early Monday, shortly after midnight.

The Los Angeles Times reports more than 100 Los Angeles police officers in riot gear converged on the crowd and ordered people to disperse.

Police say they began making arrests after declaring the incident an unlawful assembly.

The protests came at the tailend of a day of mainly peaceful protests in some California cities.

Police say they made seven arrests throughout the day.
