STUDY: If You Want Your Kids to Read, Get Them a Dog

This is gonna sound funny coming from me since I'm not much of a reader. There's a new study that says if you want your kids to read more, you need to get them a dog. Woof.

I saw this on Study Finds. It's based on new research from The University of British Columbia that claims a dog encourages kids to read more books. I had a hard time making that connection until I began to dig (no dog pun intended) into why they believe that.

Here's what they had to say about how they did their study:

Camille Rousseau, a doctoral student in UBC Okanagan’s School of Education, recently completed a study examining the behaviour of 17 children from Grades 1 to 3, while reading with and without a dog.

The results were surprising (to me). Their study says that the kids with a dog of any breed or age in the room made them feel more competent and interested in reading books.

They're beginning to do more research into theories that dogs could help with many other child-related therapies.
