UPDATE: A fire Sunday near downtown Casper was deliberately set.
Casper Fire EMS officials say they were alerted around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon by people who noticed the smoke and flames coming from a building in the 900 block of West Midwest Avenue.

"It started in this small kitchenette of this empty duplex that had not been inhabited in over fifteen or twenty years, " says Fire Inspector David Lundahl. "The fire was set in the kitchen area and it was attempted to be set in the other room but it did not take off."

Lundahl says whoever set the fire used materials at hand such as magazines, newspapers, and paper towels.
the building was being used for storage, and it looks like someone broke in. No injuries were reported in the fire.

The investigation is still open, and Lundahl encourages anyone with information to contact the Casper Police Department.

Casper Fire EMS officials say they were alerted around 4:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon by people passing by who noticed the smoke and flames coming from the building on West Midwest Avenue, just off Poplar Street. At least five fire engines and several police cars were on the scene, as there were several buildings very close by.
