During the broadcast of the 89th Annual Academy Awards, host Jimmy Kimmel surprised a group of unsuspecting tourists in a prank that will surely be remembered as one of Oscar's greatest moments.
“The song ‘Fight the Power’ is beyond me & the crew," he wrote. "The point of the song is a call to making change eventually not just applauding the thought."
A USC study recently found Asians and Asian-Americans get 5% of speaking parts in American film and TV, and the Oscars chose to make a stereotypical joke.
"Nothing can diminish the quality of their work, but these filmmakers deserve recognition. As an Academy member, I would love to see a more diverse voting membership," she wrote.
