What’s In A Wyoming Name? – Gillette

In the late 1800’s, a scientist from Connecticut, armed with a degree from Yale, became a member of the US Geological Survey helping to map the West. Edward Gillette eventually worked for three railroads and directed the building of one of them through a town then known as Donkey Creek, and later called Rocky Pile. In 1907, he was elected Wyoming’s fifth state treasurer. He brought an engineer’s mind to a growing state -- and a name to Gillette, Wyoming.
