Julie Weiss isn’t afraid to run from a challenge.

Weiss, 42, competed in the Los Angeles Marathon this past Sunday, putting an end to a remarkable streak in which she ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks in order to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer, which killed her father in 2010.

The California resident said, “Pancreatic cancer is my only competition and I intend to beat it.”

Weiss, a mother of two who earned the nickname Marathon Goddess, raised $170,000 in the process and ran a total of 1,362 miles.

Pam Marquardt, who founded the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, said, “We have never had anybody do what Julie Weiss has done.”

Weiss’ quest began in Rome and continued each weekend in a testament to the power of dedication and determination. She remained working her 9-5 job and then flew out for her race, only to return home each Sunday and begin the routine all over again.

Weiss is going to take a well-deserved break now, but she has her eye on doing 52 more marathons over the course of 52 weeks by 2020 in the hopes of raising $1 million in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
