[PHOTO] There Was a Moose on the Loose in Laramie Today!

Found on Deti Field, executing a Belly 32: Young Bull Moose, searching for glory...Or just following the water and ending up lost. Such was the case for a young bull moose this morning, who found himself on Deti Field after meandering through town. 

Martin Hicks, Wildlife Management Coordinator at Wyoming Game and Fish said this is a common occurrence for young bull moose. “We get young bulls on the Laramie River. It’s their natural habitat; they follow the river and get confused and end up in town.”

The exploratory moose was immobilized and loaded into a horse trailer. Once relocated, the moose’s vitals are checked and let back into safer, more appropriate endzones. 

 “He’s on his way up to the Snowies, safe. We immobilize them, load them, reverse the drugs, and set them free. We don’t want a big animal like that laying down real long or they can asphyxiate on their own fluids.” 

This fella is the second moose that Game and Fish have returned home this year. Those young guys like to wander, apparently. Some attempt football, and some just like to walk. 

 “They’re always young, male moose checking out new country. Between Cheynne, Laramie, and Wheatland, we get anywhere from 5-10 a year. Sometimes up in Goshen County, too, when they follow a drainage and end up in the Platte."
