Mountain West Coaches Recognize Three Wyoming Cowboys
Three Wyoming Cowboys were honored by the coaches in the Mountain West, who released their all-conference team and special awards Tuesday.
The three that received recognition were junior Justin James and seniors Hayden Dalton and Alan Herndon.
James was named First Team All-Mountain West by the coaches after averaging 19.1 points per game during the regular season. He increased that to 20.8 points per game during conference only action. James scored 20 or more points 14 times this season.
Dalton was named Second Team All-MW by the coaches. He averaged 18.1 points and eight rebounds per contest. He ranked in the top-10 of 17 different conference stats.
Herndon earned a spot on the league’s All-Defensive Team. The senior led the conference in blocked shots with 69 and blocks per game at 2.2. Herndon also snagged 26 steals in league action and grabbed 4.9 defensive rebounds per game.
The coaches selected Nevada’s Caleb Martin as its Player and Newcomer of the Year, with his twin brother Cody earning Defensive Player of the Year accolades. Sixth Man of Year went to Alex Hobbs of Boise State, while Brandon McCoy of UNLV received Freshman of the Year honors. Nevada’s Eric Musselman was named MW Coach of the Year by his peers.
