Scary Bear Encounter Could Easily Happen in Wyoming [VIDEO]
Springtime in Wyoming means hunting season to a lot of residents for Turkey and Bear. But anyone headed into the Wyoming wilderness in the spring should be on the lookout for predators, like mountain lions and bear. Especially bears!
Nothing beats being in nature! Especially at the break of dawn. The crisp cool air, the sounds of Mother Nature all around you. But when I'm in the backcountry hunting, spring or fall, I also know I'm not the only hunter in the woods. Those sweet sounds, like a gobbler flying down from their root, are also heard by predators that might come looking to investigate. In my hunting years, I've called in a few predators, black bears, bobcats, coyotes, all while trying to bag a different game animal. Most hunters are well aware that there activities or calls might lure in an animal looking for a meal. So we're usually on the lookout for predators while hunting in the spring or the fall.
Above, a recent video shows a hunter in Ontario, Canada hunting bear and when he finds a big black bear in the open, he freezes. When the bear notices him.... the bear charges! (Skip forward to the :50 second mark)... The hunter's GoPro catches the resulting encounter as the black bear runs him over.
The hunter's name is Richard Wesley and he comments on the video:
I am so happy after this confrontation with a black bear during our spring hunt. No wounds except a bruised elbow and ego where the bear threw me down. Genuinely happy that this was a non fatal or tragic outcome. Proving that the black bear is a wild and unpredictable animal. Again so happy with the outcome.
A scary encounter that could happen here in Wyoming to anyone, hunters, hikers or campers alike. So as you're in the Wyoming wilderness this spring, be sure to pay attention to what is around you. Be sure to carry protection, such as bear spray or other forms of defense when traveling through bear country.
