K2 Radio News has learned that there was apparently a student threat made against the annual Rodstock Music fund raiser at Kelly Walsh High School.

Each year KW hosts "Make - A - Wish Week".  The Student Council hosts several fund raisers to help grant a wish for a child through the Make a Wish foundation.  Over the past several years, KW has been able to raise enough money during the week to grant a wish for a child (each wish can cost $6000+).

The festival was named for former English teacher Rod Mahaffey, whose brainchild the event was.

A former student told K2 News that she was told that a student had made a threat of some kind against the festival, which starts Friday, and was removed from the school. The nature of the threat was not known.

K2 News contacted the Natrona County School District and spokesperson Tanya Southerland, and she gave K2 News this official statement...

Natrona County School District's primary goal is student and staff safety. This includes working closely with local law enforcement. When NCSD receives a report of an alleged incident or risk to student or staff safety, it promptly conducts an investigation based on school district policies and regulations. Proactive intervention and investigation, in collaboration with local law enforcement, assists in dedicated measures to keeping students and staff safe. In the event of a suspicious report impacting student safety, parents and guardians would be immediately notified. NCSD's dedication to the safety of students and staff remains our primary focus.

She also referred us to Sgt Scott Jones of the Casper Police Department. He is in charge of the School Resource Officers for the District.

Sgt. Jones said that a threat had been made a couple of weeks ago to "shoot up" the event.

Officers investigated, identified the individual and spoke with him. Sgt. Jones said the incident was resolved and the investigators were satisfied that there is no credible threat to the school. Because it involves a juvenile, no other details can be released.
