Anne Hathaway Calls Those Unfortunate Crotch Photos ‘Devastating’ and ‘Sad’
You're not the only ones scarred by seeing Anne Hathaway with no underwear. The 'Les Miserables' actress is just as upset about the whole thing as you are.
The usually put-together and elegant starlet was overheard lamenting over her decision to go commando at a 'Les Mis' luncheon on Tuesday, where Hathaway reportedly vented to Vanity Fair writer Ingrid Sischy about the snafu.
“I was getting out of the car and my dress was so tight that I didn't realize it until I saw all the photographers’ flashes,” she said. “It was devastating. They saw everything. I might as well have lifted up my skirt for them.”
Hathaway was likely trying to avoid the dreaded Visible Panty Line (VPL) in her decision to air it all out, but, um, hello? There are ways around that that don't result in a telephoto lens publishing shots of your hoo-ha to the world. (And based on the "Anne Hathaway no underwear" search hits we got, believe us: the world does want to see it, which means those photos will sell and the photogs will fight to get 'em.)
She made more public statements about the whole thing on Wednesday morning's 'Today' show, gracefully rebounding after Matt Lauer greeted her with a rather creepy, "Seen a lot of you lately." Seriously, dude?
About the photos, she said:
"It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment, and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it.
"And I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies the sexuality of unwilling participants. Which brings us back to 'Les Mis' [...] So lets get back to 'Les Mis.'"
Well played, Anne. But still, unless you're gunning for a 'Catwoman' franchise reboot of a whole other kind, wear panties. And maybe learn to keep your knees together when you get out of a car.
