Cary Rae Jepsen threw the first pitch of the night at the Tampa Bay Rays' home game on Sunday (July 14), and it was simultaneously embarrassing and awful. As in, "accidentally throwing your bowling ball backwards" awful.

On the upside? She had an admirable sense of humor about the whole thing.

According to the sportscasters, she was throwing strikes while warming up, but when it came time for the real thing she choked and ended up throwing the ball ... somewhere. (Check out the video above to see Jepsen being just as embarrassed to live it as we were to watch it.)

She later joked about the flub on Instagram, captioning a photo collage (below), "A before and after. Me taking the mound. Me knocking the camera out of the photographers hands with the baseball. And me getting a sympathy hug from the catcher. Omg."

In her defense, many people wouldn't have done much better. Also, she was able to actually throw the first pitch at an Orioles-Twins game without the video going viral. So there's that.
