A 22-year veteran of the Casper Fire-EMS Department passed away Wednesday morning after being injured in an off-duty accident, the fire department said.

Captain Scott Low, 50, was an avid outdoorsman and fly fisherman, according to Firefighter and Public Information Officer Dane Andersen.

"His presence, laughter, and sense of humor will be dearly missed by his fellow firefighters and friends," Andersen said in a news release.

Low is survived by his wife. Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date.

Low was qualified as an advanced EMT. Before joining the Casper Fire-EMS Department, he served in the California Department of Forestry for three years, Andersen said.

"He was a champion of firefighter safety, instructing countless Wyoming firefighters in the 16 life safety initiatives of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation's 'Everyone Goes Home' program," Andersen said.

Andersen did not describe the circumstances of Low's death. Further details were not immediately available.
