Snake Eyes, the mysterious and mute ninja at the center of pretty much every version of G.I. Joe — including two previous big-screen, live-action movies — is now about to receive his own solo film. And according to The Hollywood Reporter, he’s getting am up-and-coming actor to play him as well.

THR says Crazy Rich Asians’ Henry Golding is “in negotiations” to play Snake Eyes in Snake Eyes. The movie will be directed by Robert Schwentke, who previously directed RedR.I.P.D., and the last two Divergent movies, Insurgent and Allegiant.

More details on what this Snake Eyes movie will entail, per THR:

Paramount has made two G.I. Joe movies — 2009’s G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra and 2013’s G.I Joe: Retaliation — with acrobatic actor Ray Park playing Snake Eyes in both. Evan Spiliotopoulos wrote the script for the solo installment, which is said to center on Snake Eyes seeking revenge for his father’s death by joining ninja clan, in process finding acceptance.

Neither of the previous G.I. Joe movies worked particularly well and Snake Eyes typically never talks, so he seems like an odd choice to star in his own movie. (It sounds like the film is an origin story, so perhaps he talks through the movie and we learn why he never did again by the end?) Golding is a talented guy, so it’s nice to see him staying busy. Maybe can be the guy who turns G.I. Joe into a viable movie franchise.
