Have You Seen The Moose That’s Been Living Around Casper?

Living in Wyoming, you really can't be surprised by anything you may see. The state is full of interesting and fun creatures.

Around Casper it's common to see antelope, deer, bear, elk, squirrel and rabbits. Moose aren't a common sight around Casper, but seeing them isn't out of the question.

It's been a few years since there has been a moose sighting in the Casper area, until recently. This summer Wyoming Game and Fish Department was notified and confirmed that at moose WAS is the Casper area.

Listener Randall Harris was on the backside of Casper Mountain recently and caught a picture of a moose.

After checking with Janet Milek, Public Information Specialists for WGFD Casper Region and contributor to Wyoming Hookin' & Huntin' Outdoors, it's confirmed that this moose is the same moose that was spotted earlier this summer.

Since this sighting is confirmed and hunting season is upon us, hunters need to be aware of what you're shooting at. Shooting a moose without a proper license could lead to penalties that could be a hit financially or even jail time.

According the Hunter-Ed, for violating Wyoming hunting laws you could be slapped with many different violations.

• Low Misdemeanor: Up to $1,000 fine, 6 months in jail, loss of hunting privileges current year and up to 3 years.
• High Misdemeanor: Up to $10,000 fine, one year in jail, loss of hunting privileges for current year and up to 6 years
• Felony: Fines, Prison Time and other penalties
• All Violations: Courts decide on the restitution to the state for taking any wildlife illegally.

So be alert, be aware and be smart when choosing to take the shot on the game you're hunting.
