Bowers and Fletcher Get WyoPreps Athlete of the Week Awards [VIDEO]
A top-tier basketball player and wrestler earned the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors presented by Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Wyoming. Pinedale junior Elyn Bowers and Rock Springs senior Broc Fletcher received the honor for last week’s performances.
Bowers led Pinedale to a 3-0 record at the Flaming Gorge Classic in Green River and Rock Springs last week. She helped the Wranglers defeat three Class 4A opponents. Bowers averaged 28 points and seven rebounds per game over the three games. Bowers had 17 points and 7 boards in a 50-46 win over Star Valley. She followed that with a career-high and school-record 39 points, which included eight 3-pointers, in a 55-14 victory over Evanston. In their last game, Bowers had 28 points and 12 rebounds in a 49-41 victory over Green River. In the process, she passed 1,000 points in her career. Bowers also won the Flaming Gorge Classic 3-point competition. She was the girls’ winner and the overall winner, as she beat Riverton’s Parker Paxton 17-to-16.
Bowers spoke with WyoPreps earlier this week about her performance at the FCC, her team’s success, passing 1,000 points as a junior, winning the 3-point shootout, playing for her dad, and more.
Fletcher went 6-0 with six wins by fall and one forfeit victory for Rock Springs at the Battle in the Big Horns in Worland. His effort helped the Tigers win the team title. Fletcher’s six wins took less than nine total minutes to accomplish. Rock Springs defeated Lovell, Shoshoni, Cody, and Lander in pool matches. The Tigers topped Riverton and Torrington and reached the finals. Rock Springs took down Pinedale, 42-30 in the championship dual.
Fletcher was very proud of the team’s effort. He was happy his wrestling contributed to the team’s success. Fletcher discussed what led to his success, the areas he’s working on, and how Rock Springs is building their team.
Congrats to Elyn and Broc!
