We're deep into the 2023 holiday season at this point, with all the good and bad that comes with this time of year.

There is a lot to like about the holiday season, of course. People are often just a little kinder, calling it the Christmas spirit.

There is certainly an idealism, perhaps even a joy that often comes with this time of year for many folks. For kids, of course, there is the anticipation of getting gifts. For Christians, Christmas has a special meaning that takes priority over all of the holiday traditions. For businesses, the sound of cash registers and busy shoppers can be music to the ears.

And then there are the holiday parties and the food and the eggnog. It is a special time in many ways for a lot of folks

Like Anything, The Holidays Have Plusses And Minuses

But like anything in life, there are negatives too. A lot of people feel the financial pressures of life more so than ever. How much can they really afford to spend in these uncertain times? Single parents and low-income families are torn between wanting to give their kids the best possible Christmas and the risk of breaking the family budget for months to come.

And not everybody has a family and loved ones. For people who are alone, the holiday season often puts an exclamation point on a solitary existence.

Then there is the weather. In Wyoming, December is wintertime, even if the calendar doesn't say so until December 21. That means icy roads, cold weather, and winter heating bills.
