Katy Perry on Same-Sex Marriage: ‘I Believe in Equality and Love With No Boundaries or Preface’

The English translation of Katy Perry’s matadorian cover of L’Uomo Vogue has popped up online, with the singer talking about familiar topics, like her fluffy sense of style, her strict Christian upbringing and her role models, which include Madonna and Alanis Morissette. We also learned something somewhat new from Perry, known for songs like ‘I Kissed a Girl’ and ‘Ur So Gay.’ While heterosexual herself, Perry is certainly open-minded when it comes to the LGBT community. She told the magazine that she supports equality when it comes to the institution of marriage.

That’s certainly controversial in light of a hardline religious upbringing that forbade the ‘Wide Awake’ singer from using the phrase “deviled eggs.” When asked what she thinks of President Obama’s support of same sex marriage and if it will effect his bid for re-election, she said “I believe in equality. I believe in love with no boundaries or preface. I come from a childhood where there was a lot of judgment on this subject, but I have freed myself from that.” Amen, sister!

She continued, “I hope in time we can all look back at this moment and realize it was like when we look back at the civil rights movement and were ashamed of ourselves but we’re also happy that we have moved on and seen the light of equality.”

In addition to Perry being open-minded about love, regardless of gender, we’re also glad to see that despite a public divorce and the fact that she battled depression as a result hasn’t dampened her spirits or her overall view on love!
