
Little Known Black History Fact For The Cowboy State
What better way to usher in the first day of Black History Month, then with a fact about our very own Equality State.
On February 26, 1869, Congress sends the Fifteenth Amendment to the Constitution to the states for approval. The amendment guarantees African-American males the right to vote. Eight months later, November 1869, African-American women in Wyoming Territory are the first black women in the nation to gain the right to vote.
It's always nice to be the first to take a positive step in the right direction.
