As predicted, Mac Miller‘s first full-length record ‘Blue Slide Park’ — which includes tracks like ‘Party on Fifth Ave.’ and ‘Donald Trump’ — debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart. The 19-year-old rapper sold 144,000 copies of his freshman album in the first week after ‘Blue Slide Park’ was released, according to Nielsen SoundScan (via Billboard).

Even though the numbers were less than expected — industry experts were anticipating Miller to move more than 180,000 copies of ‘Blue Slide Park’ — they are still more than impressive for such a young newcomer. What’s even more impressive is that Miller is the first rap artist since 1995 to land an independently-distributed debut album in the No. 1 slot.

Billboard reports that the “last and only previous” debut album from an indie rap recording artist to land at No. 1 was Tha Dogg Pound’s ‘Dogg Food’ when the LP dropped more than 16 years ago. ‘Dogg Food’ was released on Death Row/Interscope, but the album was distributed through the independent label Priority. Miller, on the other hand, released ‘Blue Slide Park’ through Rostrum Records, with the record being distributed by INgrooves via Fontana Distribution.

In addition to this overall feat, Miller’s ‘Blue Slide Park’ is only the second indie-distributed album to shoot to No. 1 this year, following Cake’s ‘Showroom of Compassion,’ which impacted back in January.
