An investigator with the Natrona County Sheriff's Office has been recognized by the American Legion as Wyoming's 2017 Lawman of the Year.

Investigator Taylor Courtney was selected for his outstanding service to the community through "carrying out his duties as a peace officer, in a manner which reflects credit upon all law enforcement and for dedication to [his] profession above and beyond the call of duty," Natrona County Sheriff Gus Holbrook wrote Monday in a news release.

Courtney accepted the award Saturday in Worland.

"Investigator Courtney began his career with this Office in 2004, and has been an invaluable asset," Holbrook wrote.

Courtney conducts himself "in a manner which holds true to the highest standards of our profession, those being honor, courage, dedication, sacrifice and professionalism," Holbrook concluded.
