‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ Renewed For Seventh Season on ABC
Via press release, Marvel and ABC announced that the long-running Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series will return for a seventh season on ABC:
“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” stars Ming-Na Wen, Chloe Bennet, Iain De Caestecker, Elizabeth Henstridge, Henry Simmons, Natalia Cordova-Buckley and Jeff Ward. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” was co-created by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon & Maurissa Tancharoen, who also serve as executive producers along with Jeffrey Bell and Jeph Loeb. “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” is produced by ABC Studios and Marvel Television for ABC.
You’ll note Clark Gregg is not on that cast list; Agent Coulson was written off the show at the end of the fifth season. (The sixth season of S.H.I.E.L.D. has yet to air; it’s scheduled to premiere next summer.) You will see Coulson back on the big-screen in Captain Marvel next spring.
110 episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have already aired, with 13 more on the way on Season 6. Add in that seventh season now and it is easily the longest-running Marvel TV series ever. (The only other thing that comes close is the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk series from the 1970s, which had about 80 episodes and a bunch of TV films.) It’s an impressive run for a concept that has never lasted that long in any of its comic-book incarnations, starring none of the signature Marvel characters. (Coulson doesn’t count, sorry Clark Gregg stans.)
