AOL was one of the first names I remember in email and the online start-up. Verizon has announced that it will acquire AOL in a stock deal valued at $4.4 billion.

The onetime American Online, a pioneer in E-mail and web access in the early ’90s, was for a time part of a huge media venture with Time-Warner. The new move is expected to give the phone company the opportunity to become more of a content provider.

Good news for people on Verizon? Hopefully this will allow more options. There is talk of Verizon acquiring AOL for Mobile and Video reasons...but when was AOL relevant in either category. One thing is known is that they somehow will make back there $4.4 billion. Which means a rate increase is possible.
