Beyonce and Jay-Z Raise $4 Million at Barack Obama Fundraiser in NYC
Beyonce and Jay-Z hosted a fundraiser for Barack Obama last night (Sept. 18), which raised $4 million for the president’s re-election campaign.
According to the Washington Post, a ticket to get into the event at Jay-Z’s 40/40 club in New York cost attendees a cool $40,000. One hundred tickets were reportedly sold, amounting to the $4-million contribution.
Obama was the featured guest of the night, speaking in front of the intimate audience. He joked about his common ground with the Hova, saying, “Jay-Z now knows, you know, what my life is like. We both have daughters. And our wives are more popular than we are … So we’ve got a little bond there. It’s hard, but it’s okay.”
Us Weekly reports that Obama also thanked the star couple, adding extra praise for Bey. ”To J and B, thank you so much for your friendship,” the President said to his hosts. “Beyonce could not be a better role model for my girls.”
The feeling is mutual. In July, Beyonce posted a YouTube video showing her support for Obama’s re-election and reading a letter she wrote to Michelle Obama. ”Michelle, thank you so much for every single thing that you do for us,” Beyonce said in the clip. “I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to.”
The presidential election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 6.
