Did This Woman Really Just Try to Rank Fast Food French Fries?
After all, taste is in the mouth of the customer.
Gosh, I love french fries. Maybe a little too much, actually. I mean, who doesn't?? They're hot, crispy sticks with a soft velvety center that can be eaten plain or dunked into a myriad of sauces. They are the perfect vessel to carry us to happiness and they go down pretty easily.
I told you this love was serious.
Recently a columnist, Irene Jiang, from Business Insider took it upon herself to rank french fries from eight major fast food joints; Shake Shack, Arby's, Burger King, Dairy Queen, Five Guys, Wendy's, Chick-fil-A, and McDonald's. While I would have loved to have been a part of that research team, I think it's an impossible task. She did set some strict parameters, but to tell the masses that the best fries come from _______ is absolute lunacy.
But she did it anyway.
The fries were judged in four categories: crispiness, flavor, mouthfeel, and saltiness. Her top three choices were (1) Shake Shack (2) Arby's (3) Burger King. I can see flaws in her choices like the very fact that each of these drive-thru offerings is in its own competitive lane. Shake Shack fries are crinkle cut, while Arby's fries are curly with different seasoning than just salt. Maybe I'm just waaaayyyyy too into french fries and choosing a top dog is like choosing a favorite child.
I'll just shut my mouth... over a handful of fries.
