Which Great Animals Do You Think Best Represent Wyoming?
If you were trying to choose something to represent Wyoming, you could use many things to be the representative, all of which are extremely impressive.
- National Parks
- National Forests
- National Monuments
- Mountain Ranges
- The State Flag
- Steamboat
- Rodeo
- Cowboys
Quite a few animals could be used to represent, but how do you choose just one? We wouldn't have to choose just one because so many animals represent Wyoming and the Wild West.
Wyoming's country music star Ian Munsick shared his thoughts on his top five Western animals that could represent us.
His Top 5 are:
- White Buffalo
- Horse
- Wolf
- Elk
- Grizzly Bear
His choices are solid, but you could challenge a couple of them, like the Grizzly Bear or the Wolf. Both have pretty low populations compared to other Western states. They could indeed represent the West as a whole, but how about Wyoming?
If you were trying to choose the top five animals to represent Wyoming, the list would be long, and choices would be difficult.
Some animals Ian didn't choose could make the list.
Obviously, you'd probably choose a couple of big game species. Bison, elk, bear (grizzly, black, or both), or antelope would all be great.
Your choice doesn't have to be a wild animal. Livestock would be a perfect representative of the state. Cattle, horses, and buckin' bull are all nice choices.
The mountain lion, bighorn sheep, mountain goat, and wolverine may not be the first animals you'd think to represent Wyoming, but they're a choice.
You could select the Bald eagles, even though they are not exclusive to Wyoming. We have a large population of them here.
Wyoming is home to the rattlesnake. They're a lot like a Wyomingite: tough and mean, and people respect that they can be dangerous.
