The Wyoming Department of Transportation is once again reminding drivers to watch for snowplows after one of their plow operators was hit near Centennial Wednesday afternoon.

WYDOT spokeswoman Andrew Staley says the crash happened at 1:45 p.m. at milepost 24 on Wyoming 130 (Snowy Range Road), about three-and-a-half miles east of Centennial or 24 miles west of Laramie.

"The driver of a passenger vehicle rear-ended a WYDOT snowplow heading east," said Staley. "The plow operator was performing normal snow removal operations when the incident occurred."

"Road conditions at the time reported wet with snowfall and slick spots and clear visibility," she added.

Staley says the sander on the back of the plow sustained extensive damage, but, fortunately, the plow operator and the driver who rear-ended them were not injured in the crash.

According to Staley, 13 WYDOT plows were hit during the 2023-2024 winter season, 25 were hit during the 2022-2023 winter season, 18 were hit during the 2021-2022 winter season, 26 were hit during the 2020-2021 winter season, and 23 were hit during the 2019-2020 winter season.

Of those 105 plow hits, 39, or 37.14%, occurred in District 1.

"WYDOT plow operators want to remind drivers that plows create snow clouds when driving," said Staley. "Please be aware of this when encountering a snow cloud on the roadways."
