A 27-year-old Laramie man has been sentenced to seven years in federal prison for selling fentanyl pills that resulted in the buyer's death, the United States Attorney's Office announced Tuesday afternoon.

According to court documents, the case started on March 7, 2023, after Cheyenne police were called to a report of a deceased person at 305 Storey Blvd.

Officers reportedly found numerous small, round, blue pills, marked with “M” on one side and “30” on the other side which resembled authentic oxycodone M30 tablets.

Subsequent testing, however, showed that the pills were counterfeit and contained fentanyl.

An autopsy also concluded that the decedent died from fentanyl toxicity.

Investigation Leads to Laramie Drug Dealer

An investigation revealed that Tristan Chase Eickbush sold the decedent the fentanyl pills on March 3, 2023, but claimed they were oxycodone pills.

Eickbush was charged with drug distribution on May 6, 2024, and pleaded guilty on May 13, 2024.

"This case is a stark reminder that one pill can kill, and drug dealers cannot be trusted to tell the truth about what they are selling," said Acting U.S. Attorney Eric Heimann.

"Cooperation between local, state, and federal authorities enabled us to successfully prosecute this case, punish this drug dealer, and provide some measure of justice for this tragic and unnecessary overdose death," he added.

"The distribution of dangerous drugs has no place in our community," said Cheyenne Police Chief Mark Francisco.

"We will continue working with our state and federal partners to hold dealers accountable," he added. "Every counterfeit pill we get off the street is a potential life saved."

Eickbush will be subject to three years of supervised release once he's released from prison.
