Wanted Cheyenne Man Runs Out of Gas During Attempted Getaway

A wanted Cheyenne man is facing a slew of charges after reportedly running out of gas during his attempted getaway.

According to a booking sheet, it all started shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, after a deputy with the Laramie County Sheriff's Office stopped 41-year-old William Lynoel Barnes for an improper turn at the intersection of West 5th Street and Central Avenue.

The deputy says Barnes didn't have insurance, falsely identified himself, refused to exit his truck when asked to, and fled in the truck at a high rate of speed without his lights on through a populated area.

Barnes was apprehended after the truck ran out of gas.

Barnes was found to have a warrant out of Laramie County Circuit Court for failure to pay on an original charge of driving under suspension as well as a suspended driver's license.

Barnes was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center on the warrant as well as charges of aggravated fleeing and eluding with a prior conviction, interference with a peace officer, reckless driving, no liability insurance, left turn position, and driving under suspension - subsequent violations.

He made his initial appearance in Circuit Court Tuesday morning, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Dec. 29 at 9 a.m.
