Last night, Katharine McPhee was on hand at 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' to promote Season 2 of her show 'Smash,' which debuts tonight (Feb. 5). Russell Brand was also a guest on Fallon's show and he proved to be very smitten with McPhee. Let's just say... Stuff. Got. Awkward.

When McPhee first came out on stage, Brand didn't move from the first guest chair onto the couch so Katharine jokingly perched herself on Russell's lap, to which Jimmy Fallon said, "Trust me, don't do this," as Brand nuzzled her tightly. Finally he moved (McPhee practically pushed him to the couch) and Jimmy and Katharine began their chat... or so they thought....

The 'Smash' actress, a huge San Francisco 49ers fan, started recounting her journey to the Super Bowl. And it goes like this...

She was invited to the New York Jets and 49ers game by the Jets organization, but made her way onto San Fran's side of the field, where she realized Niners headcoach Jim Harbaugh's kids were big fans of her show. She goes on, "And we managed to get tickets to the Super Bowl..." then turned to Brand and said, "And when I say we, I mean my husband..." Let the awkwardness begin!

Brand quipped, "Look at the way you dropped the Jets! You could drop that guy any day!" He then went on, "I didn't know you were married, I'm going to f--- off now," and he proceeds to LEAVE THE STAGE! Talk about taking a hint!

The whole ordeal was definitely funny, albeit probably uncomfortable for the very gracious (and very married) McPhee. Following Brand's exit, McPhee's interview progressed just as any other late night appearance. Brand was certainly outrageous as per usual, but entertaining for sure, We just hope he didn't ruin Katharine McPhee's marriage!
