This week's Throwback Thursday spotlight shines on the beautiful (and semi recently re-married) Janet Jackson. My iPod being on shuffle sparked this choice. Her 1997 album The Velvet Rope, sparked one major single (that I can remember), Got 'Til It's Gone, which featured a sample of folk singer, Joni Mitchel, and a rap verse from A Tribe Called Quest front man, Q-Tip.

Although I'd never heard of Mitchell, I loved the sample and everything about this song. It has been remixed dozens of times and Joni herself incorporates elements from Janet's version (including the rap) when she performs it on tour. Because I can never decide which version I like better, I'll let you decide. The following remix was produced by the late great Hip-Hop beatmaker, J Dilla (also known as Jay Dee).
